I was "hooked" on fishing at a very young age. My early passion led to a 35-year career as a fisheries biologist, managing the famous Stillwater trout fisheries of the southern interior region of British Columbia. I have been a passionate fly fisher for 40-plus years. During this time, I have written many magazine articles and several books, along with producing numerous how-to-videos on lake fly fishing and fly tying. I am a co-host of the TV show "Sport Fishing on the Fly" as well as the owner of a guide service, Riseform Flyfishing Ventures.
I have been fly fishing for over 40 years.
Stillwater trout.
Anywhere in British Columbia, which is home to some of the best fly fishing locations and fisheries in the world.
My favorite fishing memory is when I caught my first trout. I was 8 years old and was fishing with a bobber and worm on a spinning rod setup from a shore at Deer Lake in Burnaby, BC. It was a rainy, late November morning. My dad was reading the newspaper in the car while my fishing buddy and I stood on the beach. We watched our red and white plastic bobbers float on a sea of raindrops. Then it happened. My bobber dove and I caught my first trout, which I kept and had my mom cook. The image of that first bobber disappearing is permanently etched into my mind!
Kamloops, British Columbia, the home of the world’s best stillwater fly fishing and great wintertime cross country skiing.
Every day on the water is a learning experience.
I would love to fish the spring-fed river systems of the Kamchatka Peninsula for wild rainbows.
